Peter August-Sjodin
Artistic Director
Peter August-Sjodin is Artistic Director and founder of the Squilax Music Festival.
Born in Nakusp, Peter later moved to Squilax Indian Reserve where his childhood was spent playing in the woods learning the Indian ways. At age 9, he began playing Acoustic GUitar and Electric Bass and became very proficient at both. In 1993, 94 and 95 Peter did solo tours of Mexico. Upon returning home, Peter entered into an apprenticeship in Gas Fitting where he achieved top academic award over more than 8,000 apprentices in BC.
Music has been a large part of Peter's life and his goal was to play with as many people as he could and to learn every style of music well. In 2005, Peter was labeled the Best Bassist in Canada. That year he started his band Tribal and they released their first CD Tribal - Live in SA. Their second album Uncle Bob is now available also.
Peter has had the great pleasure of playing with Les Batenses, Les Copeland and our very own Richard Underhill. Richard Underhill will be appearing on our 3rd live CD called Jass Yunk.
Peter says: "My future aspirations are to be one of the top ten Bassists in the world, to have 1,000 CDs recorded and to play a world concert with my two sons Rainmaker and Jonah Raven."
Peter is the Artistic Director for the Squilax Music Festival Music Camp for Underprivileged Children, also.
