Music Camp for Underprivileged Children
The Tribal Funk Band makes music for everybody.
Tribal, a local funk band from the Shuswap Nation, has once again put a new twist into their eclectic voyage through the musicians' world. The 1st annual Squilax Music Festival, held on September 1, 2006 at the Salmon Arm Wharf Gazebo, was the beginning of the new Tribal Trip. This Trip continues every year, now with the 3rd annual Squilax Music Festival happening on July 25th and 26th, 2008 at the Squilax Pow Wow Grounds, BC.
The purpose of the Squilax Music Festival is to raise money for a Music Camp for Underprivileged Children. This camp will allow children to have a week-long musical experience with all types of music and to try out their own musical tastes on many different instruments. These camps will be held two or four times per year.
Tribal's dream is to have a large piece of property with lots of nature, trees and wild life to add a natural feel to the music. Enough land will be needed to allow accommodations for the guests and also to grow a large garden of organic food. Tribal is also hoping to teach Native customs and traditions at the camp, which will enrich the whole experience for everyone.
The Squilax Music Festival will feature local Native drum groups, Native singers and dancers, modern funk and dance bands, as well as showcasing many more up-and-coming - and well-known - local and internation bands and artists of all genres. There will be traditional Native food available, as well as western cuisine.
Always needed for the Squilax Music Festival are Corporate Sponsors, Vendors, Volunteers and Performers. For further information, please visit our pages linked here on the site, or email Margaret Sjodin, Director of Promotions.
Artists and vendors local to Salmon Arm as well as from other areas are welcome, and are encouraged to enquire now about taking part in the next Squilax Music Festival which takes place on July 25th and 26th, 2008.
